Low-Power Sensor Provides Touch Solution and Longer Battery Life

Combining great style and high functionality is not easy. User interface affects the success of consumer products.

Situation
A leading smart home accessory provider desired a sleek, user-friendly interface for their wireless motion-detecting security camera. They also wanted sleep/wake power mode capabilities to preserve battery life and protect privacy. Mechanical switches can be large and are prone to failure.
Capacitive touch can eliminate this, but can impact battery life. Silicon Labs has a better solution.

Solution
The EFM8TM Sleepy Bee MCU with capacitive sense touch controller was the answer for this application. In addition to lower power consumption and sophisticated touch sensing technology, the Sleepy Bee provided wake-on-touch capability so most of the system can stay in low-power sleep mode while the energy-friendly Sleepy Bee monitors touch events.
